June 2009

Clare was hob-nobbing with the celebs last week at a great charity function on behalf of Action against Hunger.

"A team of celebrity chefs beat some of the nation’s best known food critics in an ingredient taste-challenge held in support of charity Action Against Hunger at Taste of London last night.

The celebrity chefs, who included Antonio Carluccio, Oliver Rowe and Anna Hansen, beat a team of critics, including Tom Parker Bowles and Tracy MacLeod, in a blind taste challenge, which tested their knowledge of ingredients." My Secret Kitchen had a number of blind ingredients for the chefs to try, including the Szechuan pepper which leaves that zingy numbing taste in your mouth!

It's an easy and convenient way of creating restaurant-quality food and a restaurant-style atmosphere, without a restaurant-sized bill!

March 2009: The new products are here!

Many months of planning once more and we think we have the best new set yet! We've gone around the world, from Africa, through Mexico, through to the far east and then back to the UK for our new range. These are all available at tastings as of next week and available online now. So enjoy them and let us know what you think!

Szechuan Pepper Pot : Using the fruits of the Japanese prickly ash tree and blending with star anise, fennel, caraway and other bits and bob, this grinder gives a warm, tingling, east asian flavour with lemony overtones.

Hibiscus & Rose Reduction: Floral is in! This has a multitude of uses, and can be used in anything from a simple embellishment for fruity desserts to a special ingredient that turns a bottle of cheap white wine into a sensational spritzer. Perfect for these tougher times.

Nacho Fiesta Cheese Ball Mix: Full of traditional Mexican spices including jalapeno chilli, oregano and a little roasted cumin, this mix, when combined with cream cheese produces an incredible ball of flavour for use with crackers, as a topping for potato skins, a stuffing for fajitas or blended with sour cream to produce an incredible mexican dip

Peach Pudding Pickle: Sweet juicy peaches combined with chillis and vanilla to produce a pickle that’s equally good in savoury and sweet dishes – Try it with jerk chicken or your favourite curry, or use it with yoghurt or as an accompaniment to cheesecake.

We're delighted to announce that Su Davies won this year and below is a photo of her receiving her award. Congratulations Sue!  We've also announced that this year, consultants will have the opportunity to go for a culinary trip to Tuscany for 2010. Sept 2008: The new products are here!!!

Our new Autumn/Winter range have just been launched and we are delighted to announce the following to the My Secret Kitchen family of products:-

Chocolate Infusions - This is a totally new concept that we believe raises the bar on traditional hot drinks. Three new flavours combine Belgian chocolate curls with select herbs and spices. Very simply, you add milk to a couple of spoons of the mix, then warm in a saucepan or microwave, leave for a few minutes for all the herbs and spices to steep in the milk, then strain into a mug. The rich chocoate melts into the milk and the herbs and spices are infused perfectly to give you an amazingly different and authentic hot chocolate drink. We also believe we are the first ones to combine white chocolate and wasabi, in our Morning Magic infusion... sounds very strange but works perfectly!

Red Wine and Port Finishing Sauce - This fits so well in our philosophy of make your meals more amazing. So many uses, from deglazing a roasting pan to adding to spaghetti bolognese and lasagne. Its a wonderfully concentrated sauce that you only need a little to add a real impact to your meals. It's vegetarian too.

Wholegrain Beer Bread Mix - Our beer bread mix has become so popular that we've decided to add a sister loaf. This is slightly more savoury than the standard loaf and is packed full of malty grains. The principle is still the same though, just add a bottle of beer to make an amazing loaf of bread.

Fig Pudding Pickle - is back! We launched this last Autumn and it went down a treat with a lot of people so we've decided to resurrect it. Perfect for sweet and savoury dishes and great for a mince pie with a twist.

Book a tasting and try all the new products!

There will be a whole new range of gift boxes being launched over the next few days so watch this space

August 2008: The award-winning My Secret Kitchen!

Great Tast Awards logoGreat news! My Secret Kitchen have won two prestigous awards in the Great Taste Awards – known as the Oscars of the UK Food Industry!

The Balsamic Reduction has been given the two star gold award, and our Maple Caramel Sauce has received the highest accolade, the three star gold award! We are so proud!! The Maple Caramel Sauce will now be in with the chance of being crowned the Supreme Champion in September.

The official press release is below:

My Secret Kitchen are dancing round the pantry at the news that their Maple Caramel Sauce has won the top three gold star award. Imagine your favourite toffees made into pourable, liquid heaven – and made all the more delicious by a hint of warm maple syrup. That’s the reason for the success. To add to their joy, they also won a two gold star award for their Balsamic Reduction.

The Great Taste Awards, which is organised by the Guild of Fine Food and often referred to as the Oscars of the food industry, is this year celebrating its 15th anniversary and is the authoritative, independent standard for Britain’s fine food sector. The judging standards are the most rigorous in the UK. Every entry is blind tasted by teams of experts. By the time it earns gold, it will have been assessed by at least three different teams. This year’s judges include Alex James, farmer, journalist and bass player with Blur, Mark Hix, the chef’s chef, Charles Campion from the Evening Standard and the Independent; Tom Parker-Bowles of UKTV Food’s Market Kitchen; and national food journalist Fiona Sims.

My Secret Kitchen is the UK’s first food and drink tasting company. The big idea is that rather than invite people round to look at lingerie or sniff some scent, it would be great to invite them round for something they can really enjoy – food.

Phil Moran, co-founder of My Secret Kitchen said, “A lot of the people who try our Maple Caramel Sauce give us the verdict of 'oooh' and 'aaah' but it’s great to also get the official Three Gold Star approval from such a distinguished team of experts”

May 2008: More wonderful articles!

It's been very busy so far for us this month, the Tatton Park exhibition enabled us to meet some wonderful people around Cheshire and the surrounding counties.

Anyone who is interested in having a tasting in that area can be completely comfortable with us now having some great people as consultants. We're still missing some pretty major cities where we have no consultant coverage so please give us a call or e-mail us if you're thinking about the opportunities that My Secret Kitchen can offer you.

The June issue of Period House has a little feature of us in the food section and we've recently had quite a few requests for information following a great three page feature of us in the new Direct Selling News europe magazine!

April 2008: William and Bailey's first fame photos!

William and Bailey have been very excited over the last few days with the first photos of them in a real life magazine!! Sense magazine, produced by the Royal Bank of Scotland wrote a lovely article about the benefits of working from home and took some lovely photos of the whole family.

March 2008: Our spring/summer products are here

Our new products have been launched! We've three fresh new products that capture the flavour of spring and summer, and take taste buds to some exciting new places.

Kashmir Curd is delicately infused with the Asian spice, cardamom, and is a deliciously versatile accompaniment to a wide range of desserts. It can also be spread on crumpets and slathered over scones to spice up breakfast or add an extra dimension to afternoon tea. Best of all, it's subtly exotic nature means it can be combined with ice cream to solve the perennial problem of what dessert to serve after a curry.

Thai Dressing with Kaffir Lime is a true splash of summer with the fresh zing of spring. It's amazing as a marinade, delightful as a dressing or sensational when drizzled over grilled haloumi cheese to make a simple-but-super starter.

Chocaberry Cheese Ball Mix combines with cream cheese to create tastefully tart mouthfuls of creamy white chocolate and raspberry indulgence. This inspires the possibility of outrageously impressive dessert cheese balls or, when also mixed with cream, an incredibly quick-and-easy cheesecake filling. Alternatively, just sandwich it between a couple of biscuits and enjoy a slice of fantasy food heaven.
